The Library of Tanzania Public Service College in Mtwara Campus was established in 2rd may 2013, under the former campus director Rajabu Milambo

Goals and Objectives

The main goal of TPSCs Library is to support teaching, research and consultancy in the College as well as at higher learning institutions and in the community. The objectives of the Library are to meet the information needs of the academic community by acquiring, processing, storing, preserving and disseminating relevant materials, managing an information database, educating and training library users on search, access and utilization of information services and providing practical training facilities for Students.

Structure

The Library is administratively under the Directorate of library and information Services. The directorate is made up of four service sections: Technical Services, Readers’ Services, Computer Section and Circulation
  • The Technical Services Section - deals with organizing all acquired information resources by recording, classifying and cataloguing themBefore the reading material is made available for use on the stacks, it is technically processed in this Section
  • Readers’ Reading Area - provides a quiet study space for students, it can accommodate over 70 students per session, and it is equipped with 9 tables which accommodates 72 chairs including the computer section chairs
  • Circulation Section - issues and returns books that are handled with the help of computers. This Section is located at LEFT WING (Block C) on the First Floor; readers can get themselves enrolled as member of the Library. Library working hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.
  • Computer Section - this section is located in the Library at the left entrance. The section has four computers for users to access the internet, browsing different information material on line using different search engines e.g. Google, etc.and printer.

Collections

TPSC library has a total of 4 collections with the total of 700 books, these collections are: 1) Special Reserve Collection, 2) General Collection, 3) Reference Sources Collection, and 4) Research Information Collection. Books in the collections belong to different subject areas such as Records Management, Human resource Management, Secretarial, office management, Information Technology, Management, Accounting, Sociology, Marketing, Microfinance, Banking, Business Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Materials Management, Communication Skills, Auditing, Law, Entrepreneurship, Research Methods, Community Development and many others.

Services

Services provided include book lending, readers’ advisory, general reference, and special reserve and Internet services. Other services which are still on strategic plan are scanning, printing and spiral binding services will also be offered in future to clients. Library automation is also still under planning in exceeding the performance of library service where OPACs will be enabled to Students and other users to browse the online catalogue in this case Users can access the library through the Internet

Users

Library services are available to college Students, Lecturers, Staff, and other outsiders consisting of researchers, students of other institutions and members of the general public

Fees

Individuals who are neither administrative staff nor members of the academic community are required to pay Tsh. 500/- per day or a fixed sum of sh.12, 000/- per annum being charges for the use of available information resources in the library. Those attending tailor-made programmes (TMPs) pay sh.3, 000/- through out the duration of the course. These rates are subject to periodic review
